The California Native Plant Society is preparing to host a special statewide conference emphasizing the conservation of California’s native plants and its fragile plant communities. This conference, CNPS 2009 Conservation Conference: Strategies and Solutions , will be held January 17 – 19, 2009 at the Sacramento Convention Center in Sacramento, CA.

Encouraging an understanding of California plants is one of the objectives of this landmark conference. One way this objective is being met is with a botanical art exhibition featuring illustrations and paintings of California native plants. This exhibit is open to all artists. Please download the Call for Entries and the Prospectus & Entry Form for details.

Over 1,000 researchers, students, policy makers, and resource managers are expected to attend. This is a great opportunity to demonstrate how botanical illustrators can contribute to enhancing public awareness about California plants.

The Writers TeleSummit 2008 is a unique four-day conference featuring 24 professional writers including illustrator Danny Gregory, who many of you know from his books Everyday Matters and The Creative License. Danny Gregory will share what he has learned when he speaks about “Writing and Selling the Illustrated Book.”

This four-day conference will occur September 4 – 7, 2008 and will be accessible from wherever you and your computer are on these days because this conference occurs online. Each day is comprised of six one-hour presentations. Paid registrants will be able to participate in each session and download sessions after the conference. So if you won’t be around September 4 – 7, you will still be able to learn about the writing process and the book industry after the summit ends.
