Botanical artist and instructor, Gwen Koths, will teach a four-week botanical painting course at Stone Turret Studio in Elkins Park, PA. Gwen is gathering 2-4 students interested in learning how to paint botanicals in a small group setting. This course will begin on Wednesday, June 4th. All details can be obtained here.

Gwen currently teaches botanical painting classes at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadephia.

The L.A. Arboretum has announced its botanical illustration classes for Fall and Winter. Beginning and experienced students can learn a wealth of information from botanical artist and instructor, Olga Eysymontt.

Basic Watercolor & Graphite Pencil
Application and Techniques for Botanical Illustration (Ongoing Series)

Los Angeles Arboretum & Botanic Garden
The rendering of three-dimensional plant forms in transparency is the main characteristic of botanical watercolor. In this class, students will render all plant forms in graphite and then use their graphite drawing as a model to create the same form with transparent watercolor. This ongoing series will cover the basic application and techniques of watercolor painting and drawing in graphite. Topics include: wash techniques, dry brush, color palette, mixing greens, mixing neutral tints, creating tonal and color studies. Draw peonies and bearded irises at a private garden in New Rochelle. Wendy Hollender will teach participants how to draw botanicals with colored pencils and watercolor pencils. The CSU Chico Herbarium will offer a botanical illustration workshop next month. This class will be taught by illustrator, Judy McCrary. A registration form is available below.

Want to draw plants and flowers? Here’s your chance! Local illustrator and teacher, Judy McCrary, will lead this one day workshop on botanical illustration. The workshop will concentrate on pencil and ink techniques, although other media may be explored depending on the interests of the participants. Please bring a 2B or a regular #2 pencil. If you already have a crow-quill pen base and nib, and black ink, bring those, too. You are welcome to borrow pencils, pens, ink, and paper if you want to try things out before making any purchases. You can find everything you could want at Ellis Art & Engineering Supplies in downtown Chico, a few blocks from the class. Let’s all bring plant cuttings and flowers to share and draw. Please also bring a lunch.

Attention Young Gardeners! Meet the author and the illustrator of Wiggle and Waggle, Caroline Arnold and Mary Peterson. Each purchase at the booksigning will include a Wiggle and Waggle activity kit.

Meet author, illustrator and educator, Marianne D. Wallace and learn about her illustrated books addressing America’s forests, deserts, wetlands, prairies, mountains, and seashores. Marianne teaches educators and parents how to introduce children to botanical illustration.

Meet the authors of The Urban Homestead. Kelly Coyneand Erik Knutzen will be signing their guide to self-sufficient living in the urban landscape.
