Art and Science Libraries Moved to Facebook

August 25, 2010 by Tania Marien

Remember ArtPlantae’s Art Library and the Science Library? They moved from the original website to this site a long time ago. As this site has grown, the libraries were pushed out of the way to make room for feature articles and interactive activities connecting you with visiting artists and authors. As a result, the libraries never became the reference collection and forum they were supposed to be.

Beginning this week, the not-so-easy-to-find reference libraries are being moved to the Facebook page. Where there used to be long lists of book titles, there is now a book group. Each listed title has the potential of becoming a conversation all on its own. If you want to comment on a title and share how it is helpful to you, simply enter your comment in the Comment box.

Each title listed on the Facebook page is presented as a book note, complete with an image and a description. This page is updated regularly, so check-in often.

This new page gives the libraries the breathing room they need and the reference material the visibility it should have. You do not have to join Facebook to view the listings. However, if you want to post a comment, you have to sign-up.

The new reference page is titled “Notes” on Facebook. Here is a direct link.

I have no desire to be part of the FACEBOOK grab. Ergo, I will have to find my information elsewhere – as I have been doing for a long time.

So, this is no loss to me.

      Annabella,
You don’t have to sign-up for Facebook to browse through the references. It is the book images that don’t usually fit in the small space. I am watching my word count so that at least the description appears in full. I know Facebook isn’t for everyone, so I’m trying to keep the information accessible to all.
