Two books have been published about Maria Sibylla Merian. The book, Maria Sibylla Merian & Daughters: Women of Art and Science, is a 231-page book published in conjunction with the current Merian exhibit at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, CA. Author Ella Reitsma provides a complete history of Merian and her daughters and shares several examples of their work (Paperback, $44.95).
Small in size, but making a large impression is the gift book, Insects and Flowers: The Art by Maria Sibylla Merian by David Brafman and Stephanie Schrader, who are both curators at the J. Paul Getty Museum. This book features selected paintings from Merian’s Metamorphosis of the Insects of Suriname (Paperback, $9.95).
